What flowers are used at Easter?
Flowers are often seen as a symbol of Spring and traditionally used at Easter as gifts, centrepieces and religious decorations. There is a huge range of flowers used at this time of year, some have special significance in Easter Celebrations. These are some of the most popular Easter flowers.
Lilies
White Lilies specifically Longiflorum Lilies are often considered a traditional Easter flower as they are thought to symbolize purity and hope and therefore represent the resurrection of Christ.
Tulips
All Tulips symbolize passion, belief and love but white and purple Tulips have their own special meanings. White indicates forgiveness and purple represents royalty, both important aspects of the Christian Easter celebration.
Daffodils
Narcissus more commonly known as Daffodils are one of the first signs of Spring. Daffodils can have a romantic connotation or simply show that you have a great deal of respect for the recipient. In Germany, Daffodils are known as Easter bells.
Daisies
Like Daffodils, Daisies are considered cheerful and are a favourite at Easter. White Daisies symbolize a calm and serene nature and purity. Some varieties of Daises can be fragrant, adding a nice touch to table centres and decorations.
Hyacinths
These are another very popular choice for the incredible fragrance and delicate florets. The colours of Hyacinths have different meanings. White can mean that the recipient is beautiful or that someone is praying for them. Purple can be considered an apology. Pink is an indication of playfulness while yellow have been thought to be a sign of jealousy.
When is best for Easter flowers to be delivered?
This choice is of course up to you, the sender. I recommend a day or two before Good Friday, this allows the recipient to enjoy the flowers over the whole of Easter weekend and into the following week. Some flowers will last a lot longer than others as they are delivered in bud for example Lilies and Hyacinths where as other flowers naturally have a shorter vase life.
What is your favourite flower at Easter? Mine personally is Tulips, I especially love the ‘parrot’ or ‘frilly’ varieties in all different colours! Its even better when they all flow over the side of the vase.
